Dave and I occasionally look for books to read together or studies to do as a couple. Over the past few years, we have taken classes at church and done studies with friends and on our own. In the process we have found that we enjoyed books by Rick Warren. So, when I saw information about his latest book, The Daniel Plan, I spoke with Dave, and we decided that this one would be a great study.
From just glancing at the book, I saw that it would give us help in all aspects of our lives. So, December 16, 2013, we bought the books, and started reading. Little did we know the changes that it would inspire, or the work it takes to make those life changes.
The start of the book is about what inspired Rick Warren to pursue this book. As we read the beginnings of The Daniel Plan, we could see our lives in the stories. The fact that our bodies, and our lives belong to God, and we are stewards of it all. I have had a relationship with Jesus all my life, but ignored these words from God…
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
All things are from God, and are His.
The more we read, the more we could see where we should make changes in our lives. Now, there are books galore that say they will help you change your life, or lose weight, or “get right with God”, or just about anything you want to change. But, having read many of those, and done many diets for weight loss, I knew that most would not help in the long run, there are changes that need to be made to live life to the fullest, the life that God has planned for each one of us. I knew that changes are not easy, bad habits are difficult to break, and good habits do not always seem to be what WE want. The changes that need to be made, start with submitting all to God, letting Him guide us through the process of positive change, and allowing others to help and support us as we do this.
As the days, weeks, months, and no doubt years go by, I will tell you some of what we are doing, what we are going through, how we handled issues that have arisen and more that we have not encountered yet. I know that God is here with us, He is supporting us in this endeavour, and will continue to guide us to a wonderful life with each other, our family, our church, and wherever He leads!
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13
